Oslo International Summer School Scholarship

Oslo International Summer School Scholarship Logo

Sons of Norway and Sons of Norway Foundation each offer one scholarship to Oslo International Summer School annually. Each of the two scholarships is for $1,500. The Sons of Norway Foundation General Fund supports this scholarship through donations, large and small, by memorial donations and gifts by will.

Who Is Eligible?

Applicants who are admitted to Oslo International Summer School, and who are current Sons of Norway members or children or grandchildren of current members, are eligible.

Deadline for Applications

Applications must be postmarked no later than March 1. Sons of Norway Foundation does not accept applications via fax.

How Winners Are Selected

Final selection of the scholarship winners will be made by a scholarship committee appointed by the President of the Sons of Norway Foundation. Award decisions are based upon the criteria listed below. Notification of award will be made within 10 weeks of deadline.

The key criteria for selection are:

  1. Academic potential
  2. Benefits to Sons of Norway or
  3. Benefits to the larger Norwegian Community
  4. Involvement in school and community activities
  5. Financial need
  6. Other, e.g., work experience

Revision Policy

The general conditions and procedures under which scholarship awards are made may be reviewed periodically by Sons of Norway Foundation. Applicant eligibility may be modified at the sole discretion of Sons of Norway and Sons of Norway Foundation. However, any previously approved scholarship/grant award will not be affected by new conditions or procedures.

In cases where a student has secured application materials early, it is recommended that the student check www.sonsofnorway.com in Nov. prior to submission, making certain that no revisions have been made which will affect the upcoming scholarship period.

Scholarship Guidelines for Essays

Submit two separate essays each on a separate sheet addressing both of the items below. Maximum one page per essay.

  • Interest in Norwegian-American heritage as it relates to personal goals, education, community or social activities, career goals and an assessment of how this program will benefit you
  • Description of how your experience will benefit the community and be in accord with Sons of Norway’s objectives

Application Checklist

Deadline For Application: March 1st of each year

  • Application form completed and signed
  • Official grade transcripts
  • Letters of recommendation (in sealed envelopes by the reference source)
  • essays
  • include photo (headshot) no smaller that 3” X 5”

A brief written report, with photos of your experiences is welcome.
