Skis Against the Atom
The exciting, first-hand account of heroism and daring sabotage during the Nazi occupation of Norway.

by Knut Haukelid
As I flew to Norway on my first trip in 2001, I read this book from cover to cover! Did you know that it was a small group of Norwegians who through their heroism may have changed the outcome of WWII? A friend in upstate NY had been part of the Manhattan Project and he told me that without a doubt, Germany was ahead on the production of a nuclear weapon, except for the materials. Read how the Norwegians were key in denying them that opportunity!
As I sat in Norway with people I was working with on a building restoration, I mentioned the book and was amazed to find that the grandson of one of those hero's was sitting there with me. He signed my book! It is a treasure to me!

From the Back Cover
The outcome of World War II could very possibly have been much different if Knut Haukelid and his small, but courageous band of Norwegian soldiers had not been successful in sabotaging the Nazi's supply of "heavy water." The "heavy water" produced at a facility in occupied Norway was vital to Hitler's race with the United States to develop the atomic bomb. Knut Haukelid's "Skis Against The Atom" gives the reader an intimate account of the valiant and self-sacrificing service that the not-to-be-subdued Norwegians performed for the whole free world.
