We spent a great Saturday afternoon picking beautiful, huge, sweet, and juicy Georgia Strawberries. Some of the kids ate more than they picked, but I don’t think anyone got a tummy ache. Even my little 2 year old Julien proudly presented a whole bucket of mostly red berries.

The weather was like a perfect Norwegian summer day, with about 20 Celsius and a blue, sunny sky. We could not have asked for a better day.

About 25 people liten og stor came. Anita and her sister Nora probably spent all night making sandwiches, with delicious shrimp, eggs and other gourmet goodies. They made peanut butter and banana sandwiches especially for the kids. We had loads of Norwegian heart waffles with whip cream and strawberries. Dotty sliced a scadrillion strawberries for everyone to enjoy.

We had a few new faces, including some more kids, which is great to see. Marianne, our newest member brought her husband, Greg, and daughter Haley. Maia came with her two daughters, Annika and Kenna. Erik brought his dad.

Erik and Eric made time for a little Norwegian lesson at the end, and Eric Brown talked to me in Norwegian about the weather, and I understood everything he said. It is so nice to see the interest and excitement of our culture.

Everyone else had a fabulous time chatting about Norwegian stuff and other things that lie dear to our hearts. I for one would like for this to become an annual event, just like I remember doing with my family every year I was growing up in Norway. My first job was actually strawberry picking (aka eating) at 15 years old.

Thanks so much to Anita, Nora, Dotty, Laurie, Erik and all the other folks who made this happen. We sure have come a long way in such a short time.
