Sons of Norway Vennekretsen Lodge of Atlanta Runs for A Cure
Vennekretsen-Atlanta Lodge 3-678 is organizing a team for the Susan G. Komen race/walk scheduled for Saturday, May 9th, 2009 in Atlanta.

Team Goal: $500.00
We're hoping that our members and other local lodges would be interested in joining us! Besides the fact that it would be a lot of fun to get together, this counts towards your Volunteer Hours for Lodge of the Year and the Sports Medal Program. Plus, walking with a large group of flag bearing Sons of Norway members would be great fun for all.
If interested, please RSVP via the form below (coming soon). If you're not attached to another group please consider joining us for this worthy cause. It is not necessary to be a member of Sons of Norway to join our group for this event.

Participants are also encouraged to secure corporate support. Many companies offer a matching gift program. We ask that you seek out this opportunity, and help raise even more for breast cancer.

**New For 2009**
The 2009 Race will feature a special Kids for the Cure program. Children 12 and under can register for the Race for the Cure for just $10, which includes a youth-sized t-shirt and the option to participate in either the 5K or 1 Mile Family Walk event. Kids for the Cure participants may also enjoy the special Kids Korral in the Expo area following the Race where they can participate in a craft project and receive their goodie bag. PARENTAL SUPERVISION IS REQUIRED THROUGHOUT THE RACE AND IN THE KIDS KORRAL.

- WHAT: 19th Annual Komen Atlanta Race for the Cure®

- The 1-Mile Walk starts at 7:45 a.m. and
- the 5 K Run/Walk starts at 8:30 a.m.
- WHY: The Komen Atlanta Race for the Cure® raises money for breast cancer research, education, screening, outreach and treatment programs. Seventy-five percent of all race proceeds remain in the Greater Atlanta area to fund breast cancer outreach projects and programs for the medically underserved, and the remaining twenty-five percent of the proceeds supports research grants awarded by the Komen Foundation Award and Research Grant Program to find a cure.
- HOW: Register online as a team (Vennekretsen-Atlanta) and help us achieve our goal of raising $1.8 million! Team members
can run, walk or cheer from the sidelines. Teams are encouraged to raise pledges and recruit
participants. Registration information is available online at www.komenatlanta.org.
WHO: Vennekretsen Lodge Members, friends, family, and business associates. Our team needs a minimum of 10 people, and may consist of runners, walkers or spectators in any combination. You do not need to be a member of Sons of Norway to join our Circle of Friends (the meaning of the Norwegian word "Vennekretsen")." - How much does it cost to participate?
- Registration is $25 per person until April 17 at 5pm.
- Following April 17 at 5pm, registration is $30 per person.
- Race day registration is $35 per person.
- Kids for the Cure registration is $10.

I recently accepted the challenge to raise funds to support the 19th Annual Komen Atlanta Race for the Cure on May 9th in the fight against breast cancer. One in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime and the more we raise, the more Komen Atlanta can give back to the community through breast cancer education, screening and treatment programs as well as supporting the national search for a cure.
